Finding the Right Daycare Supplies and Furniture

When outfitting a daycare or early learning center, having the right supplies is paramount. There are a lot of things that may be forgotten until they are needed, like smocks, lockable cabinets for hazardous materials and comprehensive first aid kits.  

Early Learning Furniture

Early learning furniture must be durable. As we know, kids don’t always have the motor skills yet to treat things gently; instead, they may consistently slam their chairs into the tables or bang a toy against a cabinet. Furniture made from durable materials like wood are best for these facilities. The furniture should have rounded corners, as we don’t want any accidental injuries from a hard corner. Round tables and chairs with rounded backs and seats are best.  

Cabinets and cubbies should be anchored to the wall to ensure things don’t topple from being weighed down with bags, lunchboxes, coats, papers, pens, cleaning supplies, and more. When looking for furniture, make sure it’s the appropriate size for the students. Older 5-year-old daycare students may be too tall for things meant for 2- and 3-year-olds. Ensure that the chairs and seating are appropriate for the weight and height of the children.  

Something to remember: the teacher’s desks and the supplies storage cabinets must be lockable. Certain things should not be easily accessible to little hands, like pens, adult scissors, small objects and other hazards.
